More freedom and comfort on board
Whether for blue-water sailing or longer cruises – more and more owners today are looking for a sailing yacht that is as self-sufficient as possible. Independent of shore power, able to anchor flexibly without compromising on comfort – this is precisely why we were commissioned to extensively fit out a new Hanse 410 in Greifswald.
This project focused on one thing above all else: maximum independence through a modern energy supply, efficient appliances and optimised on-board technology.
Why self-sufficient sailing yachts are becoming increasingly popular
Many production yachts already come with a good standard fit-out. However, anyone spending a long time at sea will soon realise that true independence requires bespoke solutions.
The following topics, in particular, are of great importance today:
- Efficient energy management on board
- Energy generation using solar or wind power
- Air conditioning and electronics
- Independent fresh water supply
That is exactly what this Hanse 410 has been designed for.
12V air conditioning on a sailing yacht – efficient and quiet
We have installed a Blue-Airco DC air conditioning unit with a capacity of 12,000 BTU in the saloon and the owner’s cabin on the Hanse 410.
The system can:
- cool
- heat
- dehumidify
Particularly impressive: the air conditioning operates at variable speed and, in Eco mode, is exceptionally energy-efficient and pleasantly quiet.
To ensure the air is distributed optimally throughout the boat, some of the furniture had to be adjusted and the air vents in the saloon repositioned. Such work is an integral part of a well-planned refit of a sailing yacht.
The right energy supply
A new lithium battery bank was essential to power the electrical components on board.
Two Epoch V2 Elite LiFePO4 batteries were installed, with a total capacity of 11 kWh or 920 Ah.
The advantages of this solution are:
- high capacity with low weight
- long service life
- high charging efficiency
- suitable for high-power loads such as air conditioning or water desalinators
This means that the air conditioning in the owner’s cabin can also be used at night – without shore power or a generator. In addition, the charging system has been upgraded and a MultiPlus-II 12V/5000VA/220A has been installed.
Solar panels – energy straight from the deck
Several walk-on Solara Marine solar panels have been installed to provide power whilst on the move.
The following were installed:
- three panels in front of the sprayhood
- an additional panel in front of the mast
The flat panels deliver reliable output even in diffuse light and are ideal for long-term use on board. The system can be conveniently monitored via an app using MPPT SmartSolar controllers.
Increased charging capacity whilst driving
In addition, the yacht was fitted with a Balmar XT 170A high-performance alternator with a smart controller. Particularly when used with large lithium battery banks, the high charging capacity ensures significantly more efficient charging cycles and shorter engine running times.
12V water softener for an independent water supply
To ensure the crew has enough water even during longer stays, a Schenker QUBE 65 L/h Mini Touch 12V water desalinator has been installed.
The system operates:
- particularly economically
- quietly
- with minimal vibration
Thanks to ERS energy recovery, electricity consumption remains low – a key consideration for any self-sufficient sailing yacht.
Mast equipment and lighting
The white-foiled mast has been fitted with the following, amongst other things:
- LED spreader lights
- A navigation light with deck spotlight
- A 3-colour LED anchor light
- 5G mobile internet antenna
- Satellite TV antenna for the Smart LED TV in the owner’s cabin
In addition, a Bimini LED lighting system comprising four cabin lights with wireless dimmers has been installed. Perfect for cosy evenings on deck.
Additional on-board equipment for greater safety and comfort
In addition to the technical specifications, we supplied the yacht with a comprehensive range of on-board equipment, including:
- Lifelines
- Fenders
- Horseshoe lifebuoy
- Boatswain's chair
- Telescopic boat hook
- First aid kit
- Gangway handrail set
- Strap kit for SUP and gangway
Modern technology for greater independence
This refit has transformed a brand-new Hanse 410 into a modern and comfortable self-sufficient sailing yacht.
The combination of lithium batteries, solar panels, efficient air conditioning, high-performance charging technology and a watermaker ensures significantly greater freedom and comfort on board – exactly what many owners are looking for in a sailing yacht today.
